Shockwave therapy for stubborn tissue

Some injuries stop improving. The pain lingers for months because the tissue has settled into a low-repair state. Radial shockwave delivers strong acoustic pulses that restart the healing response.

How it works

A handheld applicator sends rapid pressure waves into the painful tissue. The pulses increase local blood flow, stimulate the cells that rebuild tendon and fascia, break up tight, adhered areas and reduce the sensitivity of pain-signaling nerves.

Shockwave has some of the best evidence of any conservative treatment for chronic tendon problems: plantar fasciitis, tennis and golfer's elbow, Achilles and patellar tendinopathy, hip bursitis and calcific shoulder tendinitis. It works best alongside loading exercises that teach the healing tissue to handle force again.

What a session is like

Treatment time is about 15 minutes inside a 20-minute block. A typical course is three to six sessions spaced about a week apart.

Is it right for you?

It's intense, but it's adjustable. We won't use shockwave during pregnancy, over open growth plates, tumors or an infection, directly over major nerves or vessels, or if you're on blood thinners or have a clotting disorder. Avoid anti-inflammatory medication around your sessions if your physician agrees, because it can blunt the healing response.

Questions

Does it hurt?

It's uncomfortable on the sore spot. Most people rate it moderate, and we adjust intensity to keep it tolerable. The area often feels better right after.

How fast does it work?

Many people notice less pain within the first two sessions. Full tissue remodeling continues for weeks after the last one.
